Description
JUSTLA is a consortium of 7 EU universities and 11 Latin American academic institutions. A network of scholars from these organisations focuses on new areas of research in political theory and philosophy that promise to challenge the dominant liberal paradigm of justice. In particular, the project takes as its starting point recent findings on the relationship between democracy and economic inequality, cultural identities (gender, race and decolonisation), the role of science in politics in the age of post-truth and climate justice.
The focus is on institutions in Latin America because that is where developments in these areas are most advanced and because the social, economic and political realities of Latin America represent a privileged observation point from which further developments in these areas of research can be achieved.
Based on the shared conviction that justice cannot be defined by philosophy in isolation, the consortium is composed of leading European and Latin American scholars belonging to political philosophy and various other social science disciplines.
A considerable number of young scholars are also involved in this project, and are thus able to expand their competences within the framework of European and Latin American research. The aim of the consortium is to consolidate and expand the existing co-operation and knowledge exchange between European and Latin American academic institutions and to establish institutional links that will outlast the project
